I have three kids enrolled in Public School here in New York City. They work hard and are so motivated to achieving their best. It's wonderful as a parent to see! So when I see or hear about children in at-risk circumstances, I just want to wrap all those children in my arms and tell them they are amazing too, they matter, and they can achieve anything- don't give up! It all starts with school. A good education is the starting factor to achieving their potential and living up to their worth!
I stumbled upon State Bags and was immediately drawn to their cause and its execution of it. For every bag purchased, State Bags hand delivers a backpack to a child in need- here in our country, in our at-risk communities. What's even better when they deliver their bags (called a 'BAG DROP'), to quote from their site, "Our BAG DROPS are where the real work is done. Our team...leads motivational rallies that leave participating kids with a renewed spirit and belief in themselves (not to mention brand new STATE backpacks). We hope the results of our Bag Drop events will propel them to be agents of change in their communities and beyond" - is that amazing or what?
So along with giving backpacks and school supplies, they are motivating these kids (telling them they matter!) when they get the bags! This is as close as one can get to hugging all these kids and telling them how important they are. I just love it and want everyone to know about this! When you buy a bag it is a small investment in our future.
As far as the design of the bags, they are awesome (leave it to Brooklyners to take a cause and do it in the hippest way). This is The Smith bag, one of a few I'll be showing you in the next few posts. It's gorgeous, hip and so well constructed. A canvas backpack with a gorgeous leather trim and perfect clean design. It has 2 backpack straps (perfect for city life!) and a bucket construction with gorgeous hardware. This is a beautiful cause to get on board with!
